Welcome to the Gloria Botha School, a happy, vibrant environment where special needs children are nurtured both spiritually and emotionally. We want our children to believe in themselves, respect and care for others and grow up to be courageous with a love of life. A close community of dedicated staff and supportive parents makes this possible.
Due to the lack of facilities in the Hottentots Holland basin to accommodate mentally challenged pre-school children, a group of parents decided to start a school in 1990. The doors opened to 5 pupils, 1 teacher and 1 assistant, and a 2-day school week in a cottage on a small-holding in Sir Lowry’s Pass Village. With no financial help from the State, the parents had to raise funds continually under very difficult economic circumstances to keep the school going. Today the school consists of 40 pupils (their ages vary between 6 and 18 years), 3 qualified teachers, 4 assistants and a 5-day school week. The pupils live in Strand, Gordon’s Bay, Somerset West, Macassar, Stellenbosch and Eerste River.
